My Life

If you think about yourself and who you are, I think you would agree that you are not just your name, job description, where you live or how many children you have.  We are the sum of our many varied experiences, inner and outer. So what follows are vignettes that will hopefully offer some insight into my journey and why and how I see life the way I do.

I remember when I was four to five years old. My mother remembered this as well. I would often have conversations with the spirit of an old bearded man. He always appeared in my bedroom when I was alone. My mother would spot me on occasion and she  knew something was up as I was not just talking but asking questions.  There would be a pause after each question and then I would ask another question.

I attended Lafayette College from 1966 to 1970.  These were transformative years in America, in the mist of an on-going war in Vietnam, Civil Rights Movement and Women’s Liberation.  My father had died in my junior year and in my final year I was considering law school. But one day while walking across the college campus I heard a voice inside my head. It was very calm and clear. It told me: You will have a much more interesting life if you do not pursue a career in international law.  I never gave law school another thought.

After college I met Elwood Babbitt. He lived on a farm with his young family deep in a wooded area in Massachusetts.  He was a trans-medium who channeled historical entities such as Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, and even Vishnu. Elwood blew my mind out of conventional middle class reality.  He underwent multiple scientific and medical experiments and tests. Professor Charles Hapgood wrote about these in his book Voices of Spirit.

During this time in my early twenties, I began to meditate daily. The technique was TM: Transcendental Meditation. The sense of calm and inner peace deepened until one day an intense blue light barrelled through my mind and my third eye opened. Very soon after that when I looked at people sometimes they would vanish and I saw a past life instead.

I started to get more in touch with myself. I wrote songs and began to have experiences of my own former incarnations.  My clairvoyance opened up my soul memory. I started keeping a dream journal. This helped me integrate. Then I had my first experience of the future.  I had dreamed in precise detail an event which would take place two weeks later. This was a major turning point for me: I had always thought of time as linear, that the future was only determined by the past. Now my mind in an vivid dream had jumped ahead two weeks “into the future”. If this was true, how far ahead would it be possible to see into the Future? And what did that say about time? Where do dreams and the future “live”?

We commonly say “Getting in touch with myself”, but what does that mean and how does that manifest? Along with developing clairvoyance, I also had inner promptings from what I call my guides. I say guides as the information does not feel like is comes from “me” but entering my mind form some aspect of a Greater Self. A few years later, a voice in my head told me: It is the moment to become a full-time healer. I was working in the construction trade by day and teaching meditation and yoga classes at night. I now had two young kids and Ellen and I  had just bought our first home. If I couldn’t pay the mortgage, we could lose the home. My guides agreed with the my concerns but did not offer any ironclad assurances.  They just asked me: What do you believe in?  I knew that had to put it all on the line. I did. It turned into the path that I have been on ever since.

For years I could see past lives but I did not see chakras. But I wanted to.  At the time I was able to channel my guides for my clients.  One day chakras appeared in the middle of a private session.  It was amazing and challenging as the colours I saw did not fit in with the rainbow alignment.  I felt or telepathed into the colours that appeared in my clients’ chakras.  Each responded with answers and then would transform into images or symbols and sometimes even films about the past. Each chakra was rich with information and splendor.

Nancy Records one of my first clients phoned me one day in 1979 saying she and some friends would like to learn about chakras. I did not feel qualified but my “guides” said to me “don’t worry we will be there”.   I began to teach in trance six week courses in Amherst Mass. meditating on one chakra each week. All the information came through me. I became the perpetual student. This lead to my developing  a meditation technique, The Circulation of Light.

Janice Rous invited me to NYC in 1985. She launched my work there through her extensive network. Introduced me to Frankie Lipman that segued into a long consultancy for his Eleven Eleven Clinic.  Janice is the best.

In the summer of 1992 my family and I were at a gathering of Native American elders in Raton, New Mexico. I asked Pete Catches, a wizened looking Lakota medicine man from Pine Ridge what was going on.  Pete sat next to a sweat lodge, inipi. Inside, his son Peter and Chief Arvol Looking Horse -keeper of the Lakota Peace Pipe (Chanunpa) were about to commence the ceremony. I had no idea what this was. When I asked Pete he said get a towel and be back here in 5 minutes.  Pete was the fire chief. Once we were all inside he brought red hot lava rocks into the fit pit of the  lodge. As the songs and drumming continued, spirit animals jumped out of the rocks.  I began to smile, felt so joyful and loved and could not stop smiling. We were invited to attend Arvol’s sundance ceremony that summer in Greengrass SD.

My wife Jennifer and our three children moved to Ireland in 1994. I was visiting my American friend Don Dennis in England the following year. Don asked me if I could help him make an essence from an orchid. He had just returned from a Dancing Light orchid essence workshop in Findhorn Scotland and was smitten by their beauty. Don, Heather Decam and I worked as a team to develop a line of flower essences made from orchids, The Living Tree Orchid Essences. Flower Essences are similar to high potency homeopathics as they are energetic imprints into water with no actual material substance. Don expanded his business to include distributing flower and gem essences all over the world. I got to know many wonderful essences consulted for many of the developers.

In the summer of that year Don had a stand at Body/Mind/Spirit weekend in London . There I met Huw Griffths. His wife Nicole living in Switzerland had some issues so she contacted me for a phone session.  This translated into an invitation to Lausanne and an evening presentation that triggered the major path of my work life for the next sixteen years.  It was in Switzerland that the some of the higher chakras appeared. Huw also who brought me into his London based holistic health clinic on a regular basis.

Throughout my adult life, I have been led to many teachers and leaders of different spiritual and healing traditions. These have all served to create context and in many instances validation of personal insights.
